About this place

A small yellow delivery truck in a lane off Fuxing Street, known locally as the yellow cart, is one of Hualien's two best-known 'bomb' scallion pancake stalls. The pancake is deep-fried around a half-cooked fried egg, so the yolk runs when you bite in, and it comes with the stall's own sauce. The county tourism site lists the egg-cooked scallion pancake first among local favorites. We found no reliable account of where the 'bomb' name comes from.

The other stall is the older-brand blue cart at 110 Lane, Fuxing Street, No. 2. Bella.tw's 2023 roundup says the two taste similar, the blue cart a little crisper and more heavily seasoned, and each has its fans. A 2021 blog put an egg pancake from the yellow cart at NT$35; when it is busy the wait can pass half an hour, and it is one of Hualien's queue-worthy stalls. Hours are about 12:30 or 13:00 to 18:30 according to open map data and two blogs; treat them as indicative only.

Around the corner

Hualien City Center

Hualien's city center is built around Zhongshan, Zhonghua and Zhongzheng roads (the local ‘golden triangle’ shopping district), and it is about three kilometers from the station to the sea. Most of the eating is packed into this grid: Zhou Jia Steamed Dumplings on Gongzheng Street (the Gongzheng Baozi that used to be next door has moved to Renai Street, SETN reported in April 2024), Yexiang at 42 Xinyi Street, which sells only a bowl of wontons, and Zeng Ji mochi, with shops on Zhongshan, Zhongzheng and Zhonghua roads and in the station.

A ten-minute walk north on Fuxing Street, a lane holds the yellow cart for 'bomb' scallion pancake (102 Fuxing Street) and the older-brand blue cart (110 Lane, No. 2). Zhou Jia opens around 10:00 (gofunit, 2026), the yellow cart around 13:00 with a queue when busy, and Yexiang is a before-noon shop, so a day can run: dumplings and wontons in the morning, pancake in the afternoon, and the evening for Dongdamen Night Market.
