Overview

About this route

Begin with gua bao in Xinxing, work through Liuhe Night Market, ride the metro Red Line four stops to Kaohsiung Arena for Ruifeng, and finish with a bowl of braised pork rice on Liwen Road. Ruifeng opens Tuesday and Thursday to Sunday and Chunlan Gua Bao is closed Sunday, so the best nights are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Opening days and hours change, so check before you set out.

Stop by stop

The itinerary

  1. About 1 h 15 min

Stop 2: Liuhe: from seafood congee to papaya milk

Most stalls open between 17:00 and 18:00, so the crowds are still light. Walk the length of Liuhe 2nd Road and pick from seafood congee, salt-steamed shrimp, danzai noodles or stinky tofu; Sheng Yi's sausage-in-rice at No. 73 is easy to eat on the move, Wangpai douhua at No. 89 cleanses the palate toward the far end, and papaya milk finishes the walk.

  2. About 1 h 30 min

Stop 4: Ruifeng: fried chicken, stinky tofu, sweet potato balls

Open Tuesday and Thursday to Sunday. Start with the Angel chicken cutlet queue, then try Houshan Linji's fried-egg scallion pancake and Peng's braised spicy stinky tofu (reports differ on which days Peng's sets up, so check), followed by a chicken-wing rice roll and hand-made sweet potato balls, and finish with brown sugar bubble tea. Some stalls on the list come from Wikipedia alone, so follow the crowds on the night.
